Car History

Supplied new in 1934, F4/451/S has a remarkable ownership history. Bought by Mr. Symington in 1958, it has remained with the same family ever since! Post war ownership is documented over two consecutive buff log books still with the car, dating back to the 25th May 1946. Remarkably, also with the car appears to be every tax disc issued for it from 1951 to 1972. No tax discs were issued between 1973 and 2003 as during this time the car was not used. Ecurie Bertelli carried out a full restoration between September 1999 and February 2002 including an engine re-build and conversion to modern conrods and crank shaft but retaining the original (but strengthened) cylinder block. This restoration is fully recorded by invoices and photographs. Following a re-registration process for which AMOC supporting documents accompany this car, the tax discs are present again for years 2003 until 2015 when the UK ceased issuing physical tax discs. Carefully stored for much of the time since restoration, this car is in excellent condition and barely distinguishable from a freshly-restored vehicle! Driving at least as well as it did when new, this car is completely ready for enjoyment by the first new owner for 65 years.

Introduced in 1934, the Mk II was Aston-Martin’s replacement for the Le Mans model. It sported a new stronger chassis and an improved engine with counter-balanced crankshaft. Originally available in either short or long wheelbase versions - the shorter version being virtually mechanically identical to the famous Ulster racing car, one of which came 3rd overall at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1935. A number of Mk II cars competed in period and the competition lineage can be clearly seen making it an extremely capable and fast car, suitable for rally, touring and even racing events.
