1933 Aston-Martin 12/50 / Team Car

£SOLD

Lightweight, low slung and with purposeful styling; the bodywork copied from the successful Team Cars of 1932 (LM8 LM9 & LM10) A3/226/L is a close copy of arguably the most attractive cars built by Aston Martin. Perfect to race, rally or just enjoy!

It was supplied new in 1933 as a 12/50 Saloon to Mr S Beurger via the official Aston-Martin dealership at that time, Winter Garden Garage. A3/226/L later passed through the hands of four more owners before ownership with Mr Edward Tuxford, transport manager of Courage’s Brewery, London SE7. In 1941 and during the ownership of Mr Tuxford, the original saloon body was removed for repairs but, sadly, was destroyed during wartime bombing raids. It was replaced sometime later with simpler and therefore cheaper open four-seat touring body. Fast forward to the tenth owner, Mr JD Atikinson, who bought the car in 1952. A lovely article written for the AMOC about his experience with the car is within the extensive history file. The next notable owner was a Mr Charles Johnstone who bought it as his very first car! A delightful letter to a previous owner records this along with his exploits in it at Silverstone and Oulton Park, and the files even contain a photo from the Silverstone race.

Sometime before 1978, the chassis was shortened to the Le Mans specification before the car was sold on in dismantled condition to Mr Mike Ward, a development engineer for Leyland DAF. Mr Ward rebuilt the car with a Le Mans type body, although he did keep the taller 12/50 radiator. He used the car in night rallies and once raced it in the Horsfall Race at Silverstone. Mr Graham Allen became custodian in 1995 and proceeded to transform it into a close copy of LM8, LM9 & LM10; perhaps the most beautiful of all pre-war Aston-Martins. Mr Allen acquired a body built as a spare for LM9; a close copy of the original. He also fitted the correct Aston Martin gearbox keeping the Laycock unit as a spare and added a new, correct, low radiator. Mr Allen used the car extensively during his ownership and complied a very impressive history file, researching previous owners, collating invoices - some of which date back to the mid 1970s - and retaining all his competition results. The car has lapsed FIA HTP Papers which can easily be renewed, making it an ideal car for Le Mans Classic.

Little used by the current owner, this car is ready to experience, located in our showroom and dedicated workshops.
