Aston Martin 15/98 Drophead Coupé – Chassis H7/816/SC
One of only twenty-four Aston Martin 15/98 models fitted with elegant Drophead Coupé coachwork by Abbey Coachwork, chassis H7/816/SC represents a rare opportunity to acquire a significant piece of Aston Martin history.
Delivered new by Winter Garden Garage, London, this car’s first known custodian was Mrs Wyer of Wolverhampton, who cherished it until 1948. Subsequent owners included R.H. Johnson of Sheffield University’s metallurgy department, adding an intriguing academic connection to its provenance. In 1986, Mr & Mrs Perrin converted the car into a competition machine, replacing the original body with a two-seat racing body and campaigning it in hill climbs and other events.
Rescued in 1998 by its current long-term owner, H7/816/SC underwent a painstaking restoration to return it to correct specification. Original components were preserved wherever possible, with authentic parts and coach work sourced from other dismantled 15/98 Drophead Coupés. The coachwork was entrusted to Bodylines, renowned Aston Martin panel specialists, while the mechanical restoration was carried out by Ecurie Bertelli, experts in pre-war Aston Martins. The comprehensive history file documents this meticulous process and the car’s subsequent use over the last 21 years.
For over two decades, this elegant Drophead Coupé graced the Cornish lanes, a testament to its enduring charm and the dedication of its custodian. Now ready for the next chapter, H7/816/SC requires an engine rebuild and light mechanical attention—an ideal opportunity for an enthusiast to continue its remarkable story.
Opportunities to acquire one of the rarest Aston Martins seldom arise. This 15/98 Drophead Coupé awaits a discerning custodian to preserve and enjoy its unique heritage.
