Brand new Ecurie Bertelli engine built around a new cylinder block, the original cylinder block is with the car. Only test miles completed since.
G4/457/S was sold new in 1934 to Mr William Morrison of Renfrewshire, Scotland who collected the car from the factory in Feltham and drove it home to Scotland. During the war the car appears to have been sold to a US officer who probably took it home after/during the war because in the 1959 AMOC register, the car is shown as being in the USA. Norman Pickup, a member of the Aston Martin Owners Club in the USA was the owner of G4/457/S in the early 1960s and the owner of an Aston Martin Le Mans (E3/271/S). In the early 1970s, Norman Pickup decided to sell both cars which were bought by Nick Mason, Pink Floyd drummer and famous collector of historic cars and the founder of Ecurie Bertelli. Nick Mason sold the still untouched and original MKII to Silvio Fella, who re-registered it GB11 and took part in several club races and other events in 1981/1982. In the mid 1980s the car was dismantled for the first time by Silvio Fella. In the early 1990s Ecurie Bertelli started a full restoration of the car, taking several years and re-building the engine with steel crank and rods. In 2002 and after only 2,000 miles Silvio Fells sold the car to Paul Dezelsky who used it sparingly as it was one of two Aston-Martin MKIIs he owned. The current owner bought the car in 2007 from Ecurie Bertelli and took it to Germany where he campaigned the car regularly in races and rallies with some success.
Now a tidy car in good condition that drives very well with attractive light patina built up over the last 30 years, an ideal touring or rally car with thousands of miles of trouble-free motoring in store.
Introduced in 1934, the Mk II was Aston-Martin’s replacement for the Le Mans model. It sported a new stronger chassis and an improved engine with counter-balanced crankshaft. Originally available in either short or long wheelbase versions - the shorter version being virtually mechanically identical to the famous Ulster racing car, one of which came 3rd overall at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 1935. A number of Mk II cars competed in period and the competition lineage can be clearly seen making it an extremely capable and fast car, suitable for rally, touring and even racing events.
